HBK

Darmstadt, Germany · HBK (Hottinger Brüel & Kjær)
Company Overview
HBK combines HBM and Brüel & Kjær into a single measurement-technology group headquartered in Darmstadt, Germany, with strong positions in mechanical, acoustic, vibration and electrical measurement. From the HBM heritage come strain gauges, load cells and precision amplifiers; from Brüel & Kjær come acoustic and vibration instrumentation, sound-level meters and vibration exciters.
History
Brüel & Kjær was founded in Denmark in 1942 and became the world reference in acoustics and vibration measurement. HBM was founded in Germany in 1950 and became the reference in strain-gauge and force measurement. Both joined the Spectris group and, in 2019, were combined as HBK — bringing together sensor, amplifier and software expertise across the two disciplines.
Strengths
The combined portfolio allows complete measurement chains from sensor to analysed result: calibrated transducers, high-precision conditioning, and software that handles both time-domain and modal analysis. Accredited calibration laboratories in Europe support traceability, and the group's application engineers cover automotive NVH, structural dynamics, durability and power measurement.
Product Portfolio
- Strain gauges, load cells, torque and force transducers
- Measurement amplifiers and data-acquisition systems (Genesis, MGCplus)
- Sound-level meters, microphones, accelerometers and vibration exciters
- Power measurement chains with precision current and voltage transducers
In power-electronics work, HBK's precision power-measurement chains and its acoustic instrumentation together address both efficiency and noise questions on the same test bench.
