History

Karl Hottinger founded the company in 1950 to supply strain gauges and measurement technology to German industry. HBM's precision amplifiers and transducers became standards in materials and component testing, and its Darmstadt calibration laboratory earned international recognition. The company later merged with Brüel & Kjær's measurement activities under the Spectris group to form HBK.
