Power Electronic Measurements Ltd (PEM), based in Nottingham, UK, is the specialist behind the well-known CWT series of Rogowski current probes. The company concentrates on one thing and does it exceptionally well: wideband, flexible, clip-around current measurement for power electronics, from small fast-switching converters to very large pulsed currents.
History
PEM was founded in the late 1990s by engineers with roots in pulsed-power research. The CWT Rogowski probe they created — a thin, air-cored coil with an integrator — solved a long-standing problem: measuring large, fast-changing currents without saturating or loading the circuit. The series has since become a reference tool on double-pulse benches worldwide and expanded into specialised variants for partial-discharge-free environments, medical MRI installations and high-temperature use.
Strengths
PEM Rogowski probes combine wide bandwidth (up to the tens-of-MHz class) with exceptional dynamic range and inherent isolation. The flexible coil fits awkward busbar geometries and carries no iron core, so saturation is not a limitation. Calibration is traceable and each probe is supplied with its own frequency-response data. Slim, lightweight and electrically safe, CWT probes excel where conventional CTs or hall clamps are impractical.
