Pearson Electronics, based in California's San Francisco Peninsula, manufactures the classic Pearson current monitors — wideband, clamp-around current transformers that have been the reference for pulse-current measurement since the early days of pulsed-power engineering. Laboratories in physics, fusion research, radar and power electronics rely on Pearson monitors when waveform fidelity across a very wide frequency span is required.

History

Emerging from the instrumentation culture of mid-century American electronics research, Pearson developed current transformers whose toroidal cores and winding designs deliver calibrated output into 50-ohm systems with predictable droop and response. The product line has remained focused and refined over decades, with models covering milliamperes to hundreds of kiloamperes.

Strengths

Pearson monitors provide flat, calibrated frequency response from a few hertz to tens or hundreds of megahertz depending on model, with the simplicity of a passive transformer: no power supply, no integrator, no drift. The clamp and fixed-toroid formats cover cable bundles, busbars and chamber ports alike, and each unit carries its own calibration.
